The fitness for F1 requires incredible strength to cope with constant G forces - 3 to 4 g on some tracks. It's a stamina and endurance event and the drivers are supreme athletes. Drivers can sweat off anything up to 3kg of their body weight during the course of a race (on the hottest tracks)

I'm with you. Level playing field. They're already doing well in other racing codes. The girls probably enjoyed watching Jeremy Clarkson getting his butt kicked by Sabine Schmitz - but then again, we probably all did.

Indy car has proven she can take the G forces and I can see a significant marketing coup (which is, let's face it the only thing Bernie Ecclestone is interested in) in having girls in the class. It is definitely a stamina event, but that doesn't preclude women from succeeding, women's marathon times aren't significantly enough higher than men's to suggest that it is caused by any other factor than higher muscle mass.

It's a great argument to have, and one which will eventually be duked out on the various racing classes. I suspect that women won't run to the sport in droves, because it's going to be a hard fight to make it into any team, even more so if you're female. It might just be easier to play basketball and make more money!
