Cameron Shepherd returns from injury to pre-season training

    Western Force fullback Cameron Shepherd

    October 03, 2008 01:00pm
IT all starts again Monday, when the non-Wallaby players get together for the first session of the pre-season, writes Force star Cameron Shepherd.

It's an exciting time - but it's going to be more painful for some than others.

The boys will be put through beep tests, strength work and core-stability exercises.

If you come up to scratch in all the tests you get get what's called active rest holiday. If you don't, then you are going to get whipped into shape pretty quickly - so it's a big incentive to come back pretty fit and ready to go.

Coming back from my broken leg I'm going to get the rough end of the stick, no matter what.

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

    Sheps!!!
Good swipe at Drew but what if he doesn't end up getting the 'active rest holiday'...pretty sure that would mean he's packed on some pud himself.

I think he knows he won't be getting the active rest holiday.
But it is probaly more because of aerobic fitness than weight, it would be pretty hard to maintain your aerobic base with a broken ankle. I can't think of too many forms of exercise that are possible with your foot in plaster - exercise bike maybe?
Hard to perform well in a beep test after doing very little for a couple of months.

I think the dig at Drew was cos at one of the games last year, Drew went in as a Hooker replacement in the last few minutes.
But the Sharpe dig was fantastic.

How long before he gets match fitness - what are the chances of him getting a call up for the BaBas game

I doubt he'll be looking at anything before the trial match against the Saders.

Get the leg and fitness sorted and make sure his head is right about the leg.
He can then have a blinder Super14 and claim the Wallabies 15 as his own.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
