Auckland to host Tri-Nations 2009 opener

    Auckland to host Tri-Nations opener

October 03, 2008 AUSTRALIA will kick-off their 2009 Tri-Nations campaign against New Zealand in Auckland next July.
The Wallabies will need to overcome a 23-year hoodoo in the city in order to get their campaign off to a positive start on July 18 as they seek a first Tri-Nations title since 2001.

Australia will play two Tests in New Zealand, with the other the final match in the series in Wellington on September 19.

The All Blacks will travel to Sydney to meet the Wallabies on August 22.

Australia will play a single Test in South Africa next year, meeting the Springboks in Cape Town on August 8.

The Boks will also face the Wallabies in Perth on August 29 and Brisbane on September 5.

South Africa open their campaign against the All Blacks in Bloemfontein on July 25 - the first time since 1976 New Zealand will have played a Test match at the venue.

The Springboks also play New Zealand in Hamilton - the first time the nations will have met there.

Next year's will be the 14th Tri-Nations series since the tournament began in 1996.

the fact that the 2008, 2009 and 2010 tests were secured for Perth last year, it's not surprising.

    2008: useless whinging saffers
    2009: useless whinging saffers
    2010: useless whinging poms

The only thing missing was a date for next years game. So next year we again get to see "dissappointment: saffer style"

They won't come for as long as we don't have a rectangular stadium.

I'd like to see England come...and then Australia thump them and I'd like for my mum to be watching it.

With the first game of the tri-nations on 18th July and the end of the S14 season at the end of May, that leaves a 6 week period where the wallabies will be playing european backpacker sides in 1/3 full stadiums as a warmup to the tri-nations.

If this is the case, I hope that Adelaide still gets the I-ties game that was suggested earlier in the year and Melbourne gets the strongest European backpackers side (whoever that is).
