Julian Huxley Ready For Charity Ride

CA Brumbies and Wallabies fullback Julian Huxley has begun finalising preparations for his charity ride from Canberra to Orange.

Huxley will leave from Parliament House on Wednesday morning (27 August) and make the 300-kilometre trek to Orange to raise funds for Cancer Care Western NSW.

The 29 year old will arrive in Orange on Friday (29 August) to coincide with the Rugby Union Players Association's (RUPA) Masters of Rugby Tour fundraising weekend (29-31 August).

Huxley was forced to put his playing career on hold after undergoing treatment for a brain tumour revealed during a post-match scan in March this year. He will take up the role of Kicking & Skills Coach with the CA Brumbies for the 2009 season.

Huxley, whose route will take him through Boorowa and Cowra, said the decision to ride came about after watching the Australians’ cause in Beijing.

“I was already heading to Orange for the Masters of Rugby Tour and I was inspired by the Olympics and thought, ‘I reckon I could ride my bike out there’,” he said. “I mentioned it to a few people who said they thought people would be keen to get behind it and raise some extra funds for Cancer Care Western NSW.”

Huxley, who has been provided a bicycle courtesy of The Rideshop in Braddon, has maintained his fitness by continuing weights and conditioning training with the CA Brumbies.

Monies raised from Huxley’s ride and the RUPA Masters of Rugby Tour will go towards building accommodation units for patients and families requiring radiotherapy and cancer care treatment at Orange's new hospital. The facility will service 300,000 people in the central, mid and far western regions of NSW and means they will not have to travel the long distances to either Sydney or Canberra for treatment.

He will be very capably supported by his proud mother Keri, who will drive his Audi Centre Canberra support vehicle en route.

The inaugural RUPA Masters of Rugby Tour event will raise money for local charity Cancer Care Western NSW and features significant names in Australian Rugby including Huxley, Waratah Kurtley Beale and Huxley's CA Brumbies team mate Clyde Rathbone.

    BOKKE
“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
