    RYAN Cross will be thrust into the midfield 'Mr Fix-It' role by a Wallaby side chasing the Tri-Nations trophy without an injured Berrick Barnes.

    Time looks to have beaten Barnes, whose battered right shoulder is too big a risk for the 15-tackle assignment he would have to bear against a heavy traffic of All Black runners at Suncorp Stadium.

    Barnes yesterday handled ball work easily enough at his first Wallaby workout in 16 days but the heavily strapped joint is not yet near 100 per cent for the jolting contact he would have to weather.
