Fixture gods shine on the Western Force for 2009

THE WESTERN Force look like having their best starting Super 14 fixture schedule since joining the competition three years ago.

The Force - who have seven home games next year - will open their campaign with three home matches.

The draft schedule also shows the side has a mid-season run of three games at Subiaco Oval, the last one of which will be Sunday fixture.

The Super 14 season will now start a week earlier than expected, on Friday February 6, because of the introduction of the six team finals series.

This means the game against the Highlanders, originally scheduled as the final game of the year, is now the season opener followed by two more Friday games against the Blues and Cheetahs.

The Force then takes their first road trip of the season starting on Saturday February 28 in Canberra against the Brumbies followed by the Chiefs in Hamilton six days later and the Crusaders in Christchurch the following Saturday.

I am liking this schedule very much, not so much for any stragic advantage it might offer the boys, but just becasue the proposed Sydney and Canberra legs are both on very convenient weekends
