WA pair make women's rugby squad

The Australian Rugby Union has named a 22-woman squad to take on New Zealand in October in what will be the first women’s rugby international played on Australian soil since 2001.

The two-match series between the “Wallaroos” and the “Black Ferns” will be held at Viking Park in Canberra next month, with games on October 14 and 18.

Two West Australians, Melissa Rowe and Debby Hodgkinson, have been included in the Wallaroos’ squad, which is dominated by players from NSW.

Half of the squad is from NSW, including scrumhalf Cheryl Soon who has retained the captaincy after leading the side on tour in New Zealand last year.

Rowe, 26, will make her debut for the Wallaroos in the centres alongside fellow debutant Sharni Williams.
