Perth Gold Squad Announced for 2006 ARS

Burgs: The true Rugby season is approaching in Western Australia now with these type of announcements, bring it on!!!
A great honour for those in this squad and especially for those who end up playing for their state.
Extra significance for those who have (or are striving for) Academy Contracts and we especially wish the younger crew and first timers every success.
Coming from an out of town viewpoint, I found it amazing that there would be eight players representing Rockingham as the major contributor, are these players who have been there right through or those who have come home now that their local team has been promoted?
The players are coming from the local Clubs as follows:

    Rockingham 8
    Nedlands 6
    University 5
    Wests Subiaco 5
    Associates 4
    Cottesloe 3
    Perth Bayswater 3
    Palmyra 1

What happened to the super successful Kalamunda Club Red Bull (not baiting, genuine question)???
Would love to read some feedback from those involved with the different Clubs as to the strengths and weakness' of this squad, who missed out, who's injured and unable to be selected etc and how it compares to the Champion Team from last year?
This is the stepping stone between Clubs and the Force (plus the APC from this year) so it really warrants some dedicated attention from true Western Australian Rugby supporters!

Well we're not over the moon exactly.

A bit of consternation around the club. I suppose now its up to the players to show their wares on the field come the season proper.

I don't know the deal with the Rocky players but maybe someone from Cottesloe could shed more light on the situation as I think some/most are from there.

Champion team not Champion players (well thats my hope anyway)

... on the 6th day God played rugby and on the 7th day he rested, because he was sore and a little hungover.

In response to where the Rocky players came from:
James Dougal 19 this year, from colts
Tyler Edwards - ? Originally from Rocky
Chris Indich - 19 this year, from colts
Kieran Longbottom - Returning from Cott, now Rocky have a premier side
Geoff Minson - Not too sure, think returning from Cott
Andrew Smith - 19 this year, from colts
Dean Tyrell - 20 this year, returning from East Coast to Rocky
Ryan Tyrell - Returning from Cott

    feel free to correct me...

Assuming correct that's great to hear that so many are locally bred players, should auger well for their elevation to Premier.

My understanding is that most of the rocky boys are just that, born and bred!! However i do think that alot have returned from other clubs/states now that rocky is back in the premier grade. Only worry for the team now is how will rocky go when their best players are away with the Gold team? That's alot of players to lose....
