Right... so your tenous link is that Visy sponsor TahMan, and their CEO has been charged for price fixing. Not convicted mind you, charged with a presumption of innocence.


Pretty p'iss poor crime in my book, and while the details have not yet come out I can't see it being anything in comparison to this informed sources racket that came out yesterday. If he doesn't get off it'll be a minimal fine.

Billionaire Richard Pratt and his Visy group of companies have been fined a record $36 million for colluding in a price fixing deal with their arch rival in Australia's cardboard industry.

Mr Pratt's right-hand man, former Visy chief executive Harry Debney has been fined $1.5 million and former general manager Rod Carroll has fined $500,000.

Visy engaged in a four-year price-fixing and cartel scheme with packaging rival Amcor, which is understood to have increased Visy's market share from 47 to 55 per cent over a number of years and affected 90 per cent of the $1.8 billion cardboard box market.

The penalties handed down by Federal Court judge Justice Peter Heerey today are in line with the settlement reached last month between Visy and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

And regardless, who really gives a toss. They're a mascot sponsor! The CEO is under investigations of anti-competitive behaviour, nothing that Microsoft, Telstra, BP, Shell, Mobil, Caltex, and many many many other companies haven't faced at some point.

It's hardly in the same basket as Firepower who according to my un-named source (and no I haven't checked this fact cause I'm pissed!) sponsor the Academy, pay players and Force. Johnston is best mate of Force CEO and Board members

You are correct Moses. He is only accused here of giving false and misleading evidence during the trial where he was found guily and fined $36million for price fixing in the box market.

Firepower only ripped off some sporting clubs and elite players. Visy and Amcor ripped off every man womanand child in Australia by fixing prices in the box market so that EVERY commodity packed in a carton in Australia for 4 years was in a box at inflated prices.

At the end of the day though, Visy and its directors still have money to meet their obligations and there is no suggestion Tahman and the Waratahs will lose anything more than their pride.
