Seven Wallabies go back to club rugby

Seven Wallabies go back to club rugby

    June 18, 2008 - 11:21AM

NSW Waratahs captain Phil Waugh is among seven Wallabies released to make a rare appearance against amateurs in club rugby this weekend.

Coach Robbie Deans is sending the seven Wallabies who were on the bench in last Saturday's Test against Ireland off to play for their clubs at the weekend.

The seven players who missed out on the match squad against Ireland will all play for unbeaten Australia A in the Pacific Nations Cup match against Tonga at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.

Waugh will be joined in the Sydney University team by second rower Dean Mumm while rugby league recruit Ryan Cross will play for Eastern Suburbs in Sydney. (Hope he got clearance from Uni!)
They're joined in the Sydney club competition by Al Baxter (Northern Suburbs), Adam Freier (Randwick), and Adam Ashley-Cooper (Northern Suburbs) while Sam Cordingley plays for Brothers in Brisbane.

Those released to play for Australia A are Brett Sheehan, Mark Chisholm, Digby Ioane, Ben Alexander, Richard Brown, Stephen Hoiles and Lachlan Turner.

    .......

"It's good for the players and the Wallabies in general, but it's also good for the clubs these guys are returning to."

The seven players going to club rugby will stay in the Wallabies' camp at Coogee in Sydney until it breaks up on Thursday for two days.

The players going to Australia A have already been released to join coach Phil Mooney's squad in preparation.
