“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

I'd prefer a Feb start as is current. Once the festivities of December are over and the January depression rides in on the back of a wailing wallet, the start of the Super 14 is a good way to kick the blues away and usher in the optimism of a new season/year.

It seems that the NZRU has shifted it's position on an S14 expansion significantly since JO'N first ran it up the flag pole. They poured cold water all over it at the time, probably just because it was an Australian suggestion or more particularly, JO'N's. Amazing what some $$$ losses and a player drain can achieve in terms of common sense.

Or because at the time it was just John O'Neill spouting shit but now there has actually been some substance added to the plan...

    As Steve Tew put it....

Tew agreed consensus on the direction of the domestic season was developing.
Perhaps the only difference between spouting shit and substance is a bit of consensus?

Well obviously changes have been made to the original idea, hence in the quote the use of the word 'developing', remember that O'Neill threw out several ideas to change Super rugby, he was bound to hit the mark on at least some aspects of the ideas...

A later start would mean more conflict with AFL games at Subi

Yer Im with you PerthGirl Rugby is only played at subi when it suits AFL and pushing the start of super 14 back until March will encroach on the oh so precious AFL season, unless....They build us a new stadium!!

Problem solved!!! Build us a new stadium and then you can push the start of Super14 back to March!
