Thumbs up AUSTRALIA BEAT FIJI IN COUNTDOWN TO JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

More than 2500 fans have watched the Australian Under 20 side down the Fijian Under 20 team 51-27 during a trial match at Woollahra Oval in Sydney this afternoon.

The Australians, who fly out next Sunday for the Junior World Championships in Wales, ran in nine tries during an impressive hitout under the guidance of coach Brian Melrose.

Wingers Junior Sovala and Ratu Nasiganiyavi capitalised on the Australians’ desire to embrace a free-flowing approach.

Sovala collected three tries and the massive Randwick winger Nasiganiyavi, a cousin of Wallabies star Lote Tuqiri, contributed two tries to the overall haul.

While coach Melrose rested his frontline Super 14 players, the side was captained by Western Force forward Sam Wykes.

NSW duo Kurtley Beale and Rob Horne will join the Australian Under 20 side next Sunday following the Super 14 final against the Crusaders in Christchurch – unless the pair are required by Wallabies selectors for the opening three Tests of the season against Ireland and France.
