One of two players to debut for the Wallabies as an Emirates Western Force player, Tai alternated with Brendan Cannon as starting hooker until the latter’s injury against the Crusaders. The only player to have taken to the field in every one of the Emirates Western Force’s 26 Investec Super 14 games, Tai’s awesome handling/passing effort against the Cheetahs – the match in which he posted his first try for the team – suggests a resurrection of his water polo career is not out of the question. An Australian U21 polo player, Taipan – as he is fondly known – switched to rugby at 24 and made his debut for Australia at 31. With eight Test caps under his belt, Tai was a surprise omission from the Wallabies train-on squad in May. He’s studying to become a physical education teacher for life after rugby. The Brisbane-born, Gold Coast-raised rake also likes his golf and swears he hits the ball like Jack Nicklaus.
