"A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, an incredible adventure took place."
"It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her
starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy..."
Sound familiar to you?????
A not so long time ago, in an ARU board meeting far, far away and incredible decision was made.
It was a period of inter state war, the soon to be new “Force” in rugby, striking from a hidden base at Perry Lakes, had just won their first victory against the evil ARU by securing the fourth Australian Rugby Franchise. During the battle former Force employees managed to steal secret payment plans to the Force’s ultimate weapon Matt Giteau, an amazing player with enough talent to destroy entire team from any province. Pursued by the ARU’s sinister agents, also know as Sydney Morning Herald juornos, our own Princess Jess races home aboard the good ship TWF, custodian of the supporters that can save their team, lobby for a real ground to play on and restore freedom to the galaxy.
So this got me to thinking, apart from Jess, our own Princess Leia, who else on TWF is a Star Wars double?
Princess Leia - Jess
Luke Skywalker – Beaver
Yoda – Burgs
Obi-Wan Kenobi – Coach
Chewbacca – TLH
Wookies – TEF and the JB’s crew
Hans Solo - Happy
Jedi Knight – Jedi Knight
Lando Calrissian – Seldom
C-3PO – Travelling Gerry
R2-D2 – Exile
Jabba the Hut – Frontrow
Ewoks – Neo Girl and the other kids
Darth Vader - Chook
Boba Fett – Sage
Storm Troopers – SMH journalists and Force1
But in all seriousness I would like as everyone does to thank Coach and his Rugby Widow for all the time and effort that is put into this fantastic site. As they say from little things, big things grow. Right from the start there were hurdles to jump and I’m delighted that those hurdles were overcome and TWF has become bigger and better for it.
Without TWF I am pretty sure I would still have no idea how a forum type site works, you’ve actually instilled some geekiness in me as well.
Of course I have always been lucky enough to have a great bunch of rugby mad mates at and thanks to TWF that family of friends is growing by the year if not month, week or day.
TWF has given me the opportunity to enjoy tours away to watch our team play and take in the sites of our great country and New Zealand and with any luck South Africa in the coming years. Not only have I met local supporters, but even friends from over east and beyond, be them dark or baby blue supporters, kiwi, aussie or other, rugby is common denominator. These tours have always been enjoyable even if I don’t remember most of what happened away!
From Quiz Nights to Awards Nights, match day drinks or online chats, TWF has certainly become a very enjoyable part of everyday life for me.
So to every member of TWF, and those that sit out in visitor land watching from afar, thank you and well done. Without all of you and your own personal thoughts and opinions this site would not be what it has become, which is the No1 site for all Australian Rugby News…..and a bit about the Western Force as well!
So to everyone here and away on TWF, may the Force be with you all.
