ARU announces Test ticket prices for Melbourne

Tickets for the Qantas Wallabies Test against Ireland go on sale on 13 May.

The Australian Rugby Union has unveiled price-busting specials on tickets to the Qantas Wallabies’ opening Test of the season – and the first in charge for new coach Robbie Deans – against Ireland in Melbourne on 14 June.

Tickets to the Telstra Dome showdown – the first of six Tests in the Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series – start at just $39 for adults and $20 for children.

But platinum tickets at only $89 represent the ARU’s most significant “best seats in the house” deal since the turn of the century.

Tickets to the 2001 Lions Test and to subsequent internationals against the traditional top-tier nations of France, England, Scotland, England again and New Zealand have ranged from $99 to $169.

Only for the Test against Italy in 2005 when platinum seats were priced at $69 has the Melbourne sporting community been offered a lower-priced opportunity to see the Qantas Wallabies in action.

Gold category seats for the Irish Test are available at $69, the lowest price on offer in eight years – apart from the Italian Test three years ago.

Silver category seats have been priced at $54 – which is a reduction of $55 on the asking price for the same tickets to the Bledisloe Cup Test at the MCG last season.

The Test against Ireland has the added attraction of being the first for the Qantas Wallabies under the direction of their newly-appointed coach.

Tickets for the Melbourne Test go on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster from 9am on 13 May.

With Melbourne being the closest test venue for me to attend, the price of the tickets is quite good. I think I paid more than $69 for gold seats at the Wallabies-Ireland game in Perth 2 years ago.
