Tickets for Qantas Wallabies clash with the Springboks in Perth go on sale in May.

The Australian Rugby Union has turned the clock back two years in offering bargain basement prices to this year’s Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series Tri Nations Test in Perth against World Cup champions South Africa.

When the Qantas Wallabies last played a top-tier nation at Subiaco Oval in 2006 – the Irish were then in town – the entry level for tickets was $39 for adults and $78 for a family package.

The ARU has maintained those price levels in those two categories despite the game’s ever-increasing popularity in the west, the fact that the showdown with the Springboks will be the Wallabies’ opening game of the Tri Nations campaign, and not forgetting that the South Africans were crowned world champions just three months ago.

Ticket prices for the 19 July Test against the new Webb Ellis trophy holders are also comparable with 2005 when the Springboks were last in action at Subiaco Oval – and the year before the Western Force was introduced to an expanded Super 14.

Platinum category tickets are $109 against $100.80 in 2005, gold tickets are $89 (from $82.90), silver tickets are $69 (from $54), and bronze tickets are $39 (from $34).

Children’s ticket prices start at $19.50.

Tickets for the Perth Test go on sale to the general public through Ticketmaster from 9am on 13 May.
