Mitchell confident the Force will be a force

Western Force coach John Mitchell is confident his team will put in a good showing in the Super 14 season opener in Perth next week despite losing their three preseason matches.

The Auckland Blues thrashed the Force 43-5 in New Zealand yesterday.

Mitchell says the players were looking forward to the match against the ACT Brumbies next Friday in front of a home crowd in Perth.

"We know that we're going to have to work very hard," Mitchell said.

"I guess our challenge all along with a brand new group is to gain consistency.

"We're looking forward to it, getting back on home turf ... it's very parochial and fanatical back in Perth, so we look forward to getting home."

Mitchell said the side would improve as the Super 14 season progressed because of the experience gained in the trial matches.

"From day one we wanted to play a South African side and we also wanted to play two of the big sides in New Zealand," he said.

"If you do look at our trial phase we've actually played Curry Cup champions, previous Super 12 champions and NPC champions, so what a better way for our younger squad members to learn."

Way to call a spade a spade.

I'm pretty confident the Force can put up a good fight against the Brumbies. I think it'll be at the least a very close game.

One thing is for sure - Mitchell aint stupid. The results of the trial matches are irrelevant. How the squad came together as a TEAM is what is important. Roll on the Brumbies
