Australia have won the Oceania wheelchair rugby championship with a 47-41 win over Canada in Saturday's final at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

It completed a perfect campaign for the Steelers, who won all of their six round-robin games and a semi-final in the lead up to Saturday's triumph.

The Australians led throughout the gold medal game but Canada remained close for the entirety of the match.

The home team led 13-11 at quarter-time and 24-21 at halftime.

Australia opened up a 35-32 advantage by the last change and converted some early last quarter turnovers to expand their lead.

Australia clinched qualification for next year's Paralympics in Beijing on Friday and will now rise to No.2 in the world behind the United States.

New Zealand finished third in the tournament with a 29-25 victory over Japan.
