Police have questioned West Coast Eagles midfielder Ben Cousins in East Perth after pulling over his car.

Police spoke to Cousins for some time while he sat in the back of his four wheel drive.

Officers searched the vehicle and reportedly interviewed Cousins on video camera.

He has been taken by police to the Perth traffic branch.

The former West Coast player Daniel Chick is also assisting police with their inquiries.

They deserve everything they get and more for taking him back before he was cured of his drug addictions, he was always going to re offend and cause the club huge problems, but at the end of the day it was their choice to pursue with him.

West Coast Eagles midfielder Ben Cousins and his out-of-contract team mate Daniel Chick are assisting police with their inquiries after Cousins' car was stopped by plain clothed officers in Northbridge this afternoon.

Officers from the Gang Crime Squad, travelling in an unmarked car, stopped Cousins' blue four wheel drive on Aberdeen Street in Northbridge shortly after midday.

Several officers wearing gloves spent more than an hour questioning him on video camera and searching his vehicle.

They seized several items from the car which were taken away for examination.

A shirtless Ben Cousins was then taken to the East Perth Traffic Centre in an unmarked car, flanked by the detectives who had been questioning him.

Police are also questioning Eagles veteran Daniel Chick but will not say why.

The West Coast Eagles say they have not been contacted by police.

Cousins missed most of the 2007 AFL season after being suspended indefinitely by West Coast in March and forced to undergo rehabilitation for substance abuse.

He spent several weeks at a clinic in Malibu in the United States.

He returned to play for the club on a number of conditions, believed to include a zero tolerance clause to testing positive to banned substances, staying away from underworld figures and not falling foul of the law.

Looks like he failed at least 2 of these.

good old wesley boy. this sounds like a whinge but the eagles need to take responsibility for cousins. they brought him back not because like woosha said he was ready. it was because they need him. kerr was struggling and judd was injured. he came back to early. the media built him up. and why werent they monitoring him after the sudden death of his close mate manny.

theres a mixed response about this 'tribute' if anyone wants i can PM it to them because there is language in it which is not appropriate for the open forum.
someone who has admitted to having a drug problem should NOT be placed on this kind of pedestal. how many young people has he influenced?

ben cousins is not helping the drug problem in western australia or in australia. drugs kill people everyday and ruin so many lives. people who take them do not deserve to be absolved by the media or fans or whatever. dugs or "prohibited substances" (i think the news said) carry legal penalties. he deserves to have these penalties placed on him.

i hope hes proud at the moment sitting in his holding cell or wherever he is. he deserves nothing because of the possible consequences of his influence and power over young sportsmen and sportswomen.

Good words Jono.

Every bit of respect I had for him as a devout Eagles fan, has gone. He was given so many chances and he's thrown these back into the faces of those who love him, his family, his friends, his club and his fans.

As much as I worry about our midfield next season, I hope he is taught a lesson and is kicked out of the AFL.

He needs help and being in this environment obviously isn't helping. He needs some time to get his life back in order and work out what else, other than football, he is passionate about and persue that.

I hope you get well soon Ben. I hope you get the help that you need.
