The St.George Queensland Reds are celebrating the major milestone of reaching the 15,000 members mark in their first week of pre-season training for 2012’s Super Rugby title defence.
With 106 days to go to kickoff, the swelling Reds Army currently stands at 15,001 with last year’s record of 15,626 well within sight with Christmas just around the corner and the wide variety of Reds membership packages already proving a popular gift choice.
After 12 weeks in the market, the Reds have now reached the halfway mark of their target of 30,000 members for 2012.
The team’s title-winning feats and exciting brand of Rugby has attracted new support to Rugby in Queensland with over 40 per cent of the Reds Army new members, while the number of Forever Red memberships designed for fans who support the team from afar, indicate the Reds will have support in every stadium across Australia – and even in Mike Harris’s former home of New Zealand.
Harris and his teammates have been busy drumming up support on the ground and also online through their social media accounts.
“The boys are really buzzing about reaching the 15,000 member mark,” Harris said today.
“We’ve all been getting the message out there to our family and friends and there’s also a competition within the group to see who can sign up the most members.
“I’m doing pretty well because I’m giving Reds memberships for Christmas to my grandma, aunty, a couple of cousins and my brother who lives on the Gold Coast.
“They all love coming to the games and come to every one, so that’s pretty special, plus mum and dad make the trip over from NZ whenever we’ve got back to back games at home.
“Running out onto a packed Suncorp stadium is an amazing feeling, I’m sure it will be even more so if half the crowd are members of the Reds Army.”
Ruby Memberships, the Reds top offering outside of the corporate suites and boxes, have been incredibly popular as supporters have moved quickly to secure their place in the ultimate viewing spots on the halfway line for Reds and Wallabies Tests at Suncorp Stadium, which include major international fixtures against Wales and the All Blacks.
Membership in 2012 starts at just $65 and all Reds Members gain priority access to purchase tickets to the Reds finals.
Members also receive a special edition members-only DVD of the 2011 Super Rugby final, which is unavailable for retail purchase and contains never-before seen footage.

I doubt they will reach 30'000, but even 25'000 would mark them the most supported rugby team of either code... Broncos got around the same as the Reds in 2011..

My friend is getting married that night in Brisbane TIF. I've told her she should change the wedding cos not sure I could go just for that and not the rugby!

Are the Reds doing those 3-game membership packages this year?
And if they are, and someone buys 2 packages, are they counted as 2 members?
(Would this even make sense, buying 6 games rather than 8?)
15,000 fair weather supporters Queenslanders have no shame...![]()
If your going to try and ridicule what is an indictment of a successful club setting standards for other clubs like the Bumbies to follow.... At least get your facts right..... It's 17'500 members now
Quit trolling
I stand corrected 17,500 fair weather supporters...![]()
