The Waratahs played courageously in Christchurch tonight and played a top class defensive game for about 65 minutes. There were some crunching tackles in that time which delivered them a lot of turn over ball. But most of their good work was in their own half. Except for their one try they failed to convert turnovers into points due to their inability to play the 'Saders at their own territorial game. Barring Lachlan Turner (and possibly Rocky Elsom) they don't seem to have effective kickers. Even Turner didn't have a great night with the boot. Curtly Beale was exposed as having basically no kicking game except for his chips. Link will have to seriously consider looking elsewhere.
The ref did them no favours in that the first two Canterbury penalties were glaring errors. He also continually warned them about ruck infringements whereas he seemed to blow against the Tahs very quickly.
