RugbyWA Senior Rugby Competition Round 1

    Neddies start with a bang
    By RugbyWA Media
The opening round of the Pindan Premier Grade has seen some strong performances across the five matches with Nedlands flexing their muscle and exacting some revenge on reigning champions UWA in the Grand Final replay after a 32-19 win.

Neddies had a summer to think about their shock defeat in the final last season and responded with a performance that will go some way to erase their demons however only a premiership will be good enough for a club that demands excellence in every grade.

At Rosalie Park Emirates Western Force marquee player Napolioni Nalaga was the star attraction as he made a successful return from an ankle injury to play 35 minutes for Palmyra. Several strong carries received a big ovation from the crowd and he was able to celebrate a win as Pally secured a 13-11 result. Wests Subiaco scored a late try and had a chance to level the scores but missed the conversion on the final buzzer.

In the battle of Broome Street it was Associates that earned bragging rights over Cottesloe with a 23-12 win at Harvey Field, while in other matches Wanneroo celebrated long time Roo Dog JR Smith’s 101st Pindan Premier Grade game with a 38-12 defeat of Rockingham while Perth Bayswater made the most of their home ground advantage to notch a thumping 32-3 win over Kalamunda.

A full match report from the UWA v Nedlands and Cottesloe v Associates will be posted as soon as possible

Does it run this way for the rest of the season? Kwinana and Southern Lions 'age grade' sides as travelling partners to Rockingham?

See the 18's had a couple of centuries - in only 70 minutes of rugby

Uni v Wanneroo might be interesting!

Uni v Joondalup was not pretty, I was calling for the mercy rule after 20 minutes.

If they are thinking about it, they'll have to start tapping up players from here and elsewhere, and then convincing them to play 3rd grade until they go Premier. There may be lots of players at Joondalup, but there wasn't a lot of potential on show in the '18s or the 3rd and 4th grades.

    U18's UWA 106 Joondalup 5

This is the result of the poachers work. I suppose UWA are thinking they are so clever now.

Yes, UWA have won a rugby game and no doubt all their players think they are world beaters but they have stuffed the competition up big time.

I wish them nothing but bad fortune in 2012.

RM you have no idea as to the facts to why those U16 players left Joondalup. It had nothing to do with UWA poaching them. Rather go and ask the U16 Joondalup coaches from last year why these boys left.............

Southern Lions are useless at this level and will be humped by every team. Wanneroo are handy in the U18's but mainly thanks to developing their own lads (and with the help of those they took from Baysie last year!).

Pieter, Pieter. Pieter, where do I start? Have you been awake for the past few months or living in a coma? Not sure you're joining the dots correctly.

UWA have been raiding a bunch of schools and other clubs to build an U18 super team. Yes they took two from Joondalup but get with the programme.

After your own traitorous behaviour in the off season, I'd keep a low profile if I was you.

I agree. Some people might call it aggressive recruiting, others would call it poaching..
