Cup clash to test Mitchell

DREW Mitchell may have been one of the form Australian backs through the Super 14, but he knows he has a fight on his hands to win a recall to the Australia squad.

The Western Force star faces the first round of his battle this Sunday when he lines up for Australia A in their Pacific Islands Cup clash with Tonga at North Sydney Oval.

It will mark his comeback following a month on the sideline. He damaged ankle ligaments the day before the final Super 14 game against the Brumbies.

The injury happened at the worst possible time for Mitchell - the second-leading tryscorer in last year's World Cup behind Springbok Brian Habana - who was unavailable for the first 30-man Wallabies squad.
