Western Force to head to Singapore for World Club Challenge
THE Western Force is set to compete for the inaugural World Club Challenge Cup in Singapore next year.
The Force will take on English premiership clubs Gloucester and Saracens, and a yet-to-be named French club.
A Force delegation was in Singapore last week to discuss the possibilities of staging the competition with former England and British Lions hooker Phil Greening who is based in Singapore and who is good friends with Force coach John Mitchell.
The July 2009 clashes will take place at Singapore's famous cricket club and Greening said the event is planned to be hosted by Singapore for at least the next five years.
"This will be the first time professional clubs with world-class players such as Mike Tindall, Chris Jack and Matt Giteau have played in Singapore," he said.
"It is a great opportunity to bring a world-class rugby event to Asia... with the historic Padang as the backdrop, the World Club Challenge will have something for everyone."

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa

whats this about Gitteau playing?
well Giteau is still contracted to the Force until late next year, but the dates of the tournament are right in the middle of the tri-nations, i doubt dingo deans will release him to play.
The tournament sounds very interesting though, it would be good if it could get nice and big but with the top players from all the sides playing.
No chance Giteau will be playing, but who cares - that is an away trip I can get behind. Now to start plotting...
Cheaper than the East Coast run that's for sure!

JULY SCHOOL HOLIDAYSLooks like all of you who have children now have to take the young'uns along!
Yes please! This seems like a really great idea. Good for singapore rugby, and they sell super cheap wallabies jumpers over there. hehe.
A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...
