OK folks, here it is!
I’m the lucky punter who was saddled with/honoured to be given (?) the job of chat reporter. And what an epic evening it was – the log runs to 28 pages of erudite discussion and witty repartee.
If you don’t believe that – well, come on down next week and see for yourself!
Who was there?
(in no particular order…)
Exile
Blueandblack
Travelling_gerry
Burgs
Mtbeaver
Jazza93 (plus several kick-evading aliases)
Coach
NeoGirl
Krusher
|jono|
Jargan83
Flamethrower
GiteauIsGunnaScoreTwenty
LarryNJ
KenyaQuin
Jehna
Em-Forcer
…and a slightly repetitive Quizbot (confusingly titled ‘Quiz-em’ which made me feel slightly schizophrenic)
A brief summary – we covered the TWF Awards Night on and off throughout the evening, spelling, ‘leavers’, cricket, superheroes, geography, had a lesson in relationship maths and another about public address systems.
Initial chat revolved around the TWF Awards Night, who’s going, who isn’t (), how the little tackers might find a responsible adult (round here? ) to help them get in, and whether Coach could be persuaded to make a speech.
In addition, we teamed up to help improve Jazza’s spelling, which went down like a ton of bricks and led to more than a few kicking incidents.
Oh, and it’s B&B’s birthday on Friday; those of us who can’t be there nominated Gerry to get the beers in.
Mtbeaver pondering what eat and regretting not ordering a takeout Matt’s Special from JBs (can you do that?! ) from his parents who may or may not be dining there.
Poverty means he can’t order a pizza – someone teach that boy to cook?! – and the discussion turns to credit, and what people would do with $15k… B&B can’t decide between paying off some of the home loan, or going on a world pub crawl. Tricky…
Anyway, here comes the quiz. Multiple rounds, and I really have no idea who won, but Jazza was pretty quick with the answers and won some beers from Quiz-em (in direct contravention of under-age drinking laws, naughty Quizbot), as did Coach.
What did we learn? Mtbeaver thinks Dan Carter’s a Wallaby; George Gregan’s middle name is Musarurwa (as opposed to Mustafa, Muster, Mufasa, Mustaq or Muscles…); and the Farebrother-Sullivan trophy is competed for in Fiji, not Finland, or even Northern Burma.
Oh, and my bad… I really did think I was being hard done by and not being credited for getting my answers in first… turns out that was just on my chat screen, in the chat log those same answers show up second… sorry…
Anyway, back to the awards… Coach may or may not make a ‘blink & you miss it’ speech, and Exile came up with a great idea to have the outgoing winner present the award to the next winner (Miss World style – but without the swimsuits, I presume! then again…?! ). That way, we can invite 2 players each year…and a TWF tradition is born.
Jono appears at this point and reassures us that he survived ‘leavers’; in timely fashion, Jargan83 arrives and announces that he too finally had a decent score.
Does his score beat Jono’s? Well, Jargan83 scored 42 and Jono claims he scored more than once (a duck and a quokka, reckons Exile) – you be the judge!
Jargan’s having a patchy season – a flashy 56 (actually ‘freakish’ according to Krusher) but a good few ducks; reckons he most often gets out cheeply (Krusher again). Do ducks cheep?
Anyway, he didn’t want to talk about it so we moved on (eventually ).
Flamethrower popped in ‘to check out the Chat Geeks’. Us? Geeks? TLH wasn’t even there!!! Nice to see you anyway, FT.
OK now there’s chat about suburbs, cars – apparently the idiots in Commodores keep Jargan in a job, but Jono’s sh!tty Honda can smoke them… Careful Jono, or you might find yourself putting business Jargan’s way.
Exile’s trading in his Commodore – for a Lionel Ritchie CD, according to B&B – or is that what Jargan gets paid for working in the Traffic Dept? Could be either I guess!
Actually, Exile’s getting a new car. Jargan just gets free parking. Seems fair.
Some discussion over whether it’s cheaper to drive to the city and park, or travel by train. We appear to have hit a rough patch, chatwise.
So bad that tiredness overtakes Exile, who goes off, leaving B&B in charge.
Jargan’s off too, though not before he rubs it in that he’ll be at JBs Thurs eve...
…and chat turns again to Awards Night. Those who are going to attend will know each other by their TWF jerseys. Or their red hair, in Jono’s case. Not sure what Mtbeaver’s going to be wearing – he’s sent his jersey off on a tour of France.
Beav’s still trying to get Coach to make a speech, apparently his last one was much funnier than he’d admit, and he “didn’t sound like such a nerd”. Flattery will get you everywhere, Beav!
GiteauIsGunnaScoreTwenty joins us. He and Jono spar briefly over the small matter of school and the fact that Jono has apparently broken free of the shackles while GIGST is still stuck there. The perils of being on the staff. He’s a soft touch really – appears he may have written Jono a glowing reference. The things teachers will do to make sure pupils really leave! (Mind you it might be because Jono has the dirt on GIGST. Or is that the other way around? Either way, they weren’t telling the rest of us!)
Although GIGST’s seriously considering applying for my dream job. If he gets it, I’ve promised to try to be pleased and he in return will ‘probably’ be gracious. I just hope there’s as good an opportunity again at an as yet unspecified point in the future…
Larry from Joisey is here! He’s been spreading some vDough around. The TWF Casino is making some vRich and some vPoor. Is Mtbeaver just unlucky or is it rigged? He can’t believe that his “unshakeable certainty against all odds that (he’s) right” marks him out as a teenager – well spotted GIGST!
There is chat about who’s sitting where at Subi for the coming season. Think TWF may be taking over some blocks!
Tell us where you’re sitting: http://twf.com.au/profile.php?do=editprofile
And see where everyone else is: http://twf.com.au/seating.php
OK, after various connection failures and re-logins, I end up in a little '69 enclave with Coach. Nothing more sinister than our birth-year, I assure you!
But there’s a lesson in relationship arithmetic here. And birthdays. And steak. And yoga? You had to be there, but basically there’s no such thing as a free lunch – either way you’ll end up owing something!
… and it’s back to the TWF Awards Night (seriously, rub it in some more guys!).
The plus is – Coach has hired a photographer, Blue&Black is bringing a camera and Travelling_Gerry will be videoing proceedings. Larry persuades MtBeaver to weave the geek magic and get the video online.
So the rest of us will see what we’re missing…
And it’s not just those of us half a world away. GIGST will be at his daughter’s birthday dinner (she’s 6 - concensus is that if he were to bring her along and introduce her to Gits, she’d thank him when she’s older!).
At least Coach has decided to miss a merry-go-round to attend! His daughter already knows who Gits is. ( Onya, Coach!) Reckon I know where she’d rather be Thurs eve…
I feel I’m on thin ice with the next bit. I have no direct experience of wives so perhaps I should gloss over. Basically, she who must be obeyed must, er, be obeyed. And most blokes love their wives to bits. Or two bits. Or both bits. Or something! And they’ll probably change before she will. Etc.
I don’t know, at this point I got the urge to hit the pub, decided I was a bloke in disguise and shattered several illusions in the process.
Anyway, B&B starts handing round drinks, Larry, Coach & Flamethrower are off and Jehna’s here. She inadvertently reveals Burgs’ alter ego as a superhero – from tweed jacket and glasses to spandex in a shake of a cow’s tail. It’s very pastorsexual, don’t you know. Yup, that’s the country equivalent of metrosexual.
Now, lest you think the night must be drawing in and no sensible chat is left, Burgs brings us the delights of Google Earth and the amazing things you can see. Palaces and farms in the desert and man-made islands off the coast. Yes, it’s Dubai/UAE.
What else? Membership packs are on their way – Christmas has come early!
This is where Beav and GIGST discuss various microphone settings, balance, feedback – hey, if you’re organising a public speaking event these may be your go-to guys…
While we’re on geek-speak – apparently the dicatation software which saves you from typing up your own reports isn’t worth the money. I dunno – after this epic I reckon I’d give it a shot!
Now round about now young Beav may or may not have lost the plot. Or is he just trying to get a mention in ‘quote of the night’? Well, I dunno, but “I love you Burgs. He’s my little baby. I wish I could just eat him up” strikes me as just a tad attention-seeking.
FINALLY, there’s talk of tea, and the weather. How British. OK so it’s iced tea, but still.
Quotes? other than those already mentioned:
Krusher to Jargan83: Sounds like as a cricketer you make a good prop
Jehna: Is your world sexy?
Burgs: Leaves Austin for dead!
and because I promised to drop myself in it:
Em-Forcer: B&B - my peferred afternoon refreshment!
