I'm not sure of the rules re imported players so I thought I would post the question re Alby as his contract is up at the end of this year.
I for one hope he is allowed and he stays...
I was under the impression that import players from overseas that have represented another country are only allowed a two year contract?
Like David Smith had to leave, I hope you're wrong Jargs
Had to do some digging online but
http://www.news24.com/xArchive/Sport...olicy-20080905Restrictions will also apply to the contract period for a foreign star, with the overseas Test/Sevens/A-team player limited to a two-year stint at any one team.
This is a 2008 ruling and before the Rebels started, I only hope there have been changes made since then.
I believe they are in talks with ARU with specific regard to Alby.
The silly thing about that rule in Alby's case is that, yes he has played for All Blacks and does not qualify for Wallabies, but on the same hand, he is never going to play for All Blacks again. So why make him miss for a few seasons and wait until he meets the residency rule?

Daniel Braid played 2 years for the Reds and then left (was pushed by Liam Gill).
The ARU can allow a Marquee player to stay longer than 2 years if there is a shortage of top level players available in that position.
Just like Delve at the Rebels was able to stay longer because of the lack of top level back rowers available to them.
Not sure how we will go with a player like Prior who is of super rugby standard sitting on the bench.
“Everyone knows whether it’s rugby, politics or whatever, front-rowers should rule the world, so to have a hooker at the helm makes sense,” Nathan Charles Western Force & Wallabies Hooker.

I Agree totally InnForcer.
Would he stay if allowed, is anyone close to him that knows what he wants.
He made it VERY clear at the awards night that he wants to stay, he was even having a dig at Foles about getting it sorted with ARU.

Well come on Foley, get it sorted before we loose another great player...
It would be a crying shame if he had to leave and didn't want to. Is his family settled here or are they still in NZ?
Yep, I hear he would very much like to stay. I think he and his wife and son all love it here :-)
I agree with you TIF - silly to apply the marquee rules when he won't play for the ABs again.
