HE'S no David Hasselhoff but star halfback Will Genia will be called on to rescue the Wallabies' sinking World Cup confidence today when he is rushed back into the No.9 to meet the Springboks.
Genia, who yesterday joined the Wallabies in a chilly recovery session at Coogee Beach, is one of several big stars to be recalled by coach Robbie Deans following the shock loss to Samoa on Sunday.

With the Wallabies due to play South Africa in the Tri-Nations opener on Saturday, the Queensland contingent of Genia, Quade Cooper and James Horwill are set to return, as are young guns James O'Connor and David Pocock.

Deans remained under heavy fire yesterday for fielding a half-strength side against Samoa but he was still defiant about his decision to rest the Reds players.

"We made those decisions at the time and we believed they were the right ones," Deans said. The coach reacted to the pressure, however, by bringing forward the team announcement for the Boks' clash by several days in an attempt to switch the focus to the ANZ Stadium clash.
