Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal has accused playmaker Dan Carter of 'crossing the line' with his reported wage demands after the World Cup.
According to French daily newspaper L'Equipe, Boudjellal has claimed that the All Black maestro has asked for 1.2 million ($NZ42,300 a week).
However the big-spending club's owner, who already has England number ten Jonny Wilkinson on his books, believes that DC has gone too far.
''Is this reasonable?'' questioned Boudjellal.
''1.2 million for Dan Carter a season for a three-year contract. Everyone is put off by that price.
''In the current climate of rugby, this has crossed the line.''
Carter's three-year deal request, according to Boudjellal, would leave the pivot with the option of returning to New Zealand ahead of RWC 2015.

im not surprised its happened.. i will be surprised if noone pays it... i dont think its a good thing and if noone steps up to pay it then i will be truly impressed.
SANZAR isnt ready for that kind of money to be thrown around for players.. it will kill southern hemisphere competitions stone dead.
After what happened with Perpignan I wouldn't risk the money.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Boudjellal reportedly dangled 1.4 million Euros a year for 3 years to tempt SBW to stay. So is 1.2 million stillover the top by comparison?
The fact that SBW valued an AB jersey more than that has made me reassess him as a player. There might well have been more to his walkout on the Bulldogs than has been revealed. What he has not done is whine publicly about what caused it. That's a plus.
Like all mungos who try Rugby, I'm watching his efforts with a bit of extra interest.
Watched a bit of a Toulon match this week. Matt Henjack was doing some TV comments. Apparently he's back on Toulon's books as well.
"The main difference between playing League and Union is that now I get my hangovers on Monday instead of Sunday - Tom David
He is probably starting that high, to make anything under $1million (euros) a season seem cheap. Anyway, i'm sure he will get something close to $3.5mil over 3 years if he starts discussions now. He could probably turn any of the fringe teams into top 4 clubs.
