Scott Staniforth will undergo knee surgery on Thursday and will miss the remainder of the 2008 EWF campaignEmirates Western Force centres Ryan Cross and Scott Staniforth are each involved in a recovery race to be involved in Robbie Deans' first Australia Test squad.

Both players will undergo surgery this week, which will end their involvement in the Force's Super 14 season.

Cross, who has not missed a game for the Force since his cross-code move from NRL club Sydney Roosters last year, has a cheekbone fracture and will have a small plate inserted today to stabilise the fractures around the eye socket, which were suffered in the one-point round 12 victory against the Chiefs at Subiaco.

Staniforth is meanwhile due to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee, which will leave him with a similar three-to-four-week recovery period.

The estimated -off leaves the centre partners facing a race to be fit for Australia's opening Test of the season, against Ireland in Melbourne on June 14, with Deans taking over the Wallabies' reins on June 2.

Staniforth has had a scan that revealed a microscopic cartilage with which he started the season had opened to 15mm, sidelining him the last two games of the Emirates Western Force's campaign

That's ok cause they are playing Ireland - lull Deans into a false sense of the state of Aussie Rugby - let Ireland (who still don't have a coach) win and then get the Force lads back in for the Bledisloe action - even the vBookie odds will be good.

Seriously hope to see a Wallaby squad resplendent with Western Force Stars.
