FORMER Springbok winger Tonderai Chavhanga has emerged as a possible contender for NSW Waratahs' marquee import position for next year's Super 14 series.
The Afrikaans Die Burger newspaper has reported that the Waratahs and Chavhanga have been in contact.
The Waratahs have also been negotiating with former All Black winger Sosene Anesi, who plays for the Chiefs.
If Anesi decides to stay in New Zealand, Chavhanga could become a real possibility for the Waratahs, who are looking for a replacement for sacked Wallaby Lote Tuqiri.
A lightning quick winger or fullback, the 25-year-old Chavhanga is out of contract with South African Super 14 side, the Stormers.
The Zimbabwean born Chavhanga is a proven try-scorer at Super rugby and Test level. He has played four Tests since making his debut against Uruguay in 2005, scoring six tries.
He would have played more Tests, but his career has been hampered by a succession of injuries.

will be a good buy.. i feel he should be in the Boks team ahead of Ndungani
maybe left out due to his poor injury record?? as a marquee player he's perfect!
I thought NSW was the heartland and capable of producing Super 14 players?
nah, remember that the Force is the wallaby factory. Super 14 shmortein. We want your wallabies!
How about we give you another Quokka? I can throw it over your way.....![]()
Springbok wing Tonderai Chavhanga will be leaving Cape Town in 2010 after he signed a two-year contract with the Lions on Monday.
The Western Province and Stormers wing has been waiting on a contract extension but with no deal forthcoming form WP, the speedster has decided to head to Johannesburg after weighing up contract offers from both the UK and France.

Chook, Waratahs are always behind in the selection stakes... Why do you think this kid is any good besides being tall has many overly tall guys lack other important field skills... Victor Matfield is the exception.. the extra 3-8 cm or so is in the lineout lift or the call not the individual..... any 197-ish player can lockout the opposition... If the Boks don't have him signed he's not international level...
