In a candid interview last night, former Western Force favourite, and perennially injured Brumbies flanker David Pocock confirmed he is about to sign a contract with his former club that will see him return to the west as early as September this year.
Pocock has never hidden his preference for the climate and lifestyle found in Perth and recently admitted the move to such a cold climate as Canberra has been tougher than he expected.
“Emma has never really settled here in Canberra; the people are very nice but the weather is just too cold for her”, he said. “and I must admit that I much prefer the warmer weather in Perth too” he added. "And now we are expanding our family, we'd prefer to raise the kids where it's warmer."
In a surprising admission, Pocock also said “The main reason I signed with the Brumbies was to be coached by Jake”, referring to Jake White, who left the franchise at the end of the 2013 season to return to South Africa, where he now coaches the Coastal Sharks. “Now that (the Brumbies) have lost that stability, I am confused about the game plan and general style Bernie (ex Wallaby and Brumbies favourite son Stephen Larkham) wants us to play. I mean, I get that he was a classy back in his day, but the way he coaches the forwards....” he trailed off, teasingly.
It is expected that Pocock will seek medical treatment for his latest injury with the Perth doctors who attended to him during his injury-laden days with the Western Force, with a view to flying to and from Perth on a regular basis to receive the best care.
No comment was forthcoming from the Brumbies organisation, but a very enthusiastic source within the Western Force franchise simply pointed out today’s date.
