Interesting to see a big club like Perth Bayswater only having one win for the weekend

Interesting to see a club maligned for "recruiting" winning in nearly every junior grade ...

And having a team in every one ...

    And usually two ...

Not good to see so many "mercy rule" games but.

I assume that is the scores in brackets Ecky?
    What's the point in that?
Seems a little strange and could bugger up percentages at the end of the season, but I don't know the reasons so happy for the advice.

You are going to see some even greater scores and that is the direct result of a poor grading structure

U13 Perth Bayswater and Palmyra played each other twice in the grading games and they were also First and second place on the ladder after last year's competition. ( PALLY WON ONE AND BAYSIE WON ONE)

What was learned or gained by that ??? In other age groups the same scenario happened

Where the difference in score in any game becomes more than 50 points the "Mercy Rule" is invoked,
so that the difference in scores in any game does not exceed more than 50 points
    But don't ask me why

This situation occurred in at least three age groups where last years grand finalists played each other two weeks in a row. Whats the point?

The point of the grading games is to sort out the teams in the middle grouping to determine Swan and Gold categories so the season is competitive and enjoyable for all players.

Are there really only nine clubs with Under 16's or is there a division missing off the top of the list?
What is the age jump now days to the next level?
Colts I assume but what are the ages?

    from 16s you go 18s and 20s.
16s is usually small because of the amount of PSA players unavailable due to 1st and 2nd XV fixtures.

That is why I say they must play the PSA on a Friday

Why does RugbyWA provide refs and judiciary to PSA, when they do very little to accomodate our sport?

There is more to the problem than PSA.
The raw numbers may support such a concern with assuming each school to have two XV's being 44 x 7 schools or 308 kids.
However, it is far too great a leap to suggest that Clubland are missing out on 308 players.

Firstly, often there aren't two full 22 man Squads to start with, in a full season of 1st XV we used 20 players.

More importantly though, PSA Sports are compulsory to students, if it wasn't you could easily drop a third who are there under sufferance, for arguments sake we'll call that now 200.

Of the 200 probably a quarter are actually rubbish and only play to hang out with their mates instead of playing Squash and Badminton, that's now 150.

Of the 150, from earlier experience, probably a quarter already double up with a Club anyway, we'll round that down 35 for the hell of it, leaving 115.

Of the 115, let's take out another 2 per team who are too sore or are injured from playing the day before (the suggested Friday fixture), that's another 28 and suddenly we are at 87.

And if you want to be really pessimistic, of the 87 about half would prefer to be chasing skirt and getting drunk in the backyard of a mates house than playing Club Rugby, seeing they had already played a match on the Friday, so we now have 40, because the other 3.5 had to go to their family reunion/afternoon job/homework/other commitment.

Now sure, we can get bogged down with the actual numbers I've used but the point remains the same, the PSA isn't stopping 308 kids from playing Club Rugby.
What it is doing is bringing a lot more kids who otherwise wouldn't play at all into the code and hopefully getting them exposed and interested enough to play on as Colts after the leave school.

I would suggest that what Clubland might do is instead of whinge about how many more players the PSA bloods for future recruiting and how many more fixtures the PSA gives officials opportunities for experience, that perhaps they should take the initiative and build a direct partnership with their closest PSA school so as to gain loyalty and build their ranks.
