Emirates Western Force back Drew Mitchell has indicated he will join the NSW Waratahs from next season subject to finalising a new agreement with Australian Rugby Union.
The 24-year-old has rejected an offer from the Perth-based team with his preference to link with the 2008 finalists.
"Obviously I had been assessing my future for quite some time, which indicates how much I’ve enjoyed it here in Perth for the past three years," said the 29-Test veteran.
"There was speculation that my leaving the Force was a forgone conclusion once Matt Giteau signed with the Brumbies but that certainly wasn’t the case. I considered a range of factors and had very good offers from both the Force and the Waratahs.”
"Matt was obviously a big reason I came to Perth, so him leaving the club did have an impact, but I’ve said all along I’d base my decision on rugby and lifestyle.”
Joining the WA side in 2007, Mitchell has scored seven tries in his 34 Super 14 appearances in ocean blue.
"My decision was based very much on my personal circumstances and where I wanted to be. It wasn’t a financial decision,” he said.
"I have really enjoyed my time in Perth and feel that I’ve really developed as a player. I’ve enjoyed playing a role in the leadership group here and I know that the Force has got a strong future.”
