    Scotland 20 - France 16

I think I can be aloud a wee gloat.

Well, a hell of a victory for the boys. I must admit I always tend to be optimistic about Scotland's performances prior to games and get let down, but this time I had some genuine belief in them as they seem to have found the right mix. Before the detractors say one off win....blah blah blah, this is not the case ,already we have proved ourselves more than capable against the All Blacks recently. The All Blacks came away with a win, however they were full of praise. Who better to receive praise from?

I don't know about you guys but as far as I'm concerned, in rugby you can have the best skills but if you don't have the heart then it will come to nothing. Man I wish I had been to Murrayfield yesterday. I used to go see all the games when I was at home.....I know it would have been a great atmosphere.

What a way to start the week, hopefully it will end on the same note.

    Go the Force

I was actually refering to playing the French.
But now you've just given the Scots even more ammo for an enevitable loss in the future.
Maybe you should look at changing that signature to-
    Arrogant by birth
    Ignorant by choice

I held back but well done Burgs. I did intend saying that if ignorance is indeed bliss then Luke must be a very happy young man.

This is smacks of pure arrogance and flies in the face of your comments in other posts of insulting other countries, I casn remember when there was a run of years when the celts kept the grand slam out of Englands mitts, it proved that they weren't the world class side they said they were - as they should have racked up grans slams during that period.

Victories like the 10-9 win Wales had over them, and Scott Gibb's try in Wembley to seal that win, and the Scots beating them in the final game, this wasn't that long ago either..... they choked far too often....

Och, Pontyboy, leave the wee boy alone. He's merely demonstrating to us his lack of knowledge of the great game. He's probably bitter because he's been unlucky enough to be tainted with the stereotypical english arrogance and they forgot to give him a sense of humour or humility. The poor boy's going to have to live the rest of his life like that unless he decides to grow up that is.

That should just about do it!

Until a few years ago, England weren't so crash hot either. England were once where Scotland are now, surely you're not blind to that.

    1996 Eng P4 W3

Here's an excerpt of a Report from the 2001 match - After England fall at the final hurdle, 3 years in a row

    Ireland steal England's thunder

    20 Oct 2001

Keith Wood's jolly green Irish giants broke England's hearts at Lansdowne Road this afternoon with a stunning Six Nations performance.

The Ireland skipper scored his side's only try as Ireland completed a Celtic hat-trick by pouring more Grand Slam torment on England.

At Wembley in 1999 England fell at the final hurdle to Wales, in 2000 they succumbed to Scotland in the howling gale at Murrayfield.

Today they made it a triple crown of Grand Slam failure when they blinked once more at the finishing tape. And, while losing two Grand Slams might be deemed careless, to lose three calls into serious question - to use the vernacular - the bottle of a side which purports to be among the best in the world.

When the final whistle went the whole Irish team danced a jig of deserved celebration while the white shirts of England trudged away - Six Nations champions but losers once again.

And then, to pile on the agony, they endured the embarrassment of having to watch Ireland, runners-up on scoring difference in the championship, complete a delirious lap of honour.

And you couldn't help but observe that on a sparkling autumn afternoon there was a spring in the step of every man in green and a look of fallen leaves about the men in white.

Come now boys, we'll have no mocking of any nationalities here - except perhaps the French...

and maybe Percy Montgomery (but not because he's South African!) ...

Poetic Pontyboy, very poetic...it brings a tear to the eye.

I was at Murrayfield in 1984 and 1990 for the grand slams and what a joy they were. The atmosphere in 1990 was amazing because, as usual, we had been written off by the english before the game started but when we saw David Sole walk his men onto the park, we then knew it was going to be a game to remember.

I remeber there was a pub in my hometown of Aberdeen, which was half full of english fans and before the game started a large group of them put on Grand Slam shirts. My mates were there and man did they have a ball.

    O Flower of Scotland,
    When will we see
    Your like again,
    That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
    And stood against him,
    Proud Edward's Army,
    And sent him homeward,
    Tae think again.

    The Hills are bare now,
    And Autumn leaves
    lie thick and still,
O'er land that is lost now,
    Which those so dearly held,
    That stood against him,
    Proud Edward's Army,
    And sent him homeward,
    Tae think again.

    Those days are past now,
    And in the past
    they must remain,
But we can still rise now,
    And be the nation again,
    That stood against him,
    Proud Edward's Army,
    And sent him homeward,
    Tae think again.

    Post blah blah blah

Aw... I didn't mean to kill the thread totally. I don't mind a bit of biff and heated exchange, just so long as it's 1. not personal 2. In reasonably good spirit 3. can be left behind when you move into the next thread. (ie. bait each other here if you must, but when you move into say, a super 14 thread leave the excess baggage behind)

Just think of it as like being in a public bar with very BIG bouncers on the door ready to snap troublemakers in half like a toothpick.

Don't make me use my spidey powers
