Brumbies to feature in historic double-header

Today at 11:17 AM Super Rugby

The Brumbies will feature in an historic NRL-Super Rugby double header at Eden Park in 2020.

Both the Brumbies and the NRL's Raiders will travel to Auckland for the clash with the Raiders-Warriors to kick off on Saturday March 21 at 3pm AEDT and the Brumbies facing the Blues at 5:35pm AEDT.

It is believed to be the first time the two codes have held a double-header and fans will be watching closely to see how the transition between matches, with just 45 minutes between games, goes..

Brumbies CEO Phil Thomson said the Brumbies had jumped at the chance to be involved in the games.

“We are delighted to be a part of this innovative and exciting event in Auckland,” Brumbies CEO Phil Thomson said.

“This is a unique event and a chance for fans of both codes in Canberra to get behind their teams together in what should be a fantastic sporting spectacle played out at one of the World’s most famous venues.

“The double-header concept has been approved by NZ Rugby, SANZAAR and the NRL to proceed and we are very excited to take part in what will be a history creating event.”

The Brumbies last won in Auckland in 2013 but have lost their past two encounters at Eden Park to the Blues.

It will be just the second Eden Park appearance for the Raiders.

The Brumbiea take on the Blues on March 21 at Eden Park, kicking off at 7:35pm local, 5:35pm AEDT, LIVE on Foxtel and via RUGBY.com.au RADIO.

Will the gate takings be more than double by having both games at one venue, or will NZ rugby union be giving NZ rugby league (a minor sport over there) a hand out?

Would loons like Shasta pay to go to both games at different venues anyway, or would they only go to watch the league because it costs them nothing extra?

Why give the Mungos a hand up?

It is in NZ I suppose, so you have to account for aberrant thought processes.

Loons eh? You'll need better bait than that to get me into a pointless pissing contest I'm afraid.

Looking at the Kiwis-V-GB Test @ Eden Park just now; I think Fulvio has a point. Only enough Mungo "loonies" () to half fillit. Interesting to see if any more Mungo loonies turn up for the Aussies-V-Tonga.

Long day but somebody's gotta do it.

Might be more Tongans at that game than the Kiwis. NZ haven't been having a great run lately.

There's easily 20-30 % more there now - and nearly everyone there is supporting Tonga. They are the second best team in this tournament - and are right in this game.

Well the Aussie Mungos have done it this time.

They've even managed to make the Wallabies look good.

Now THAT is one very wobbly assumption.
