Toomua may muscle way into No 10

Toomua may muscle way into No 10

    http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news...0/1412341.aspx

ACT Brumbies coach Andy Friend is considering a major selection shock, labelling rookie flyhalf Matt Toomua ready for Super 14 rugby.

Toomua appeared a distant second-in-line behind Christian Lealiifano who owned the No10 jersey in 2008 following Julian Huxley's season-ending injury in round three for the key pivotal role this year.

But Toomua has emerged as a genuine flyhalf contender according to Friend.

''Watching him training, yeah he is ready, but it's another thing when you're playing full contact. That said I watched him play a few club games last year and I have every confidence that, if asked, he'd be able to step up to Super 14 rugby,'' Friend said of Toomua.

''Matt's got some tremendous attributes in the way he can read the game and the way he can control a game.

''He's a beautiful ball carrier, he just keeps the opposition guessing. He can square up an opposition very, very well.''

While Friend said he was impressed with Lealiifano's efforts last year, the coach refused to guarantee him the No10 jersey.

''There's good competition there and that's very, very genuine competition,'' Friend said.

''Matt's got a great pass, a lovely kicking game and good vision. He understands trends in the game.''

well we all know that the Force pinched alot of talent from the Eastern States, Queensland in particular, but of the other 3 Teams how many of the players aren't actually from the state that they now represent?

You can call Toomua and Stephen Moore a trade for the Faingaa twins.

Not all the players who first start playing professional football feel strongly about state alliances. These players have grown up else where or immigrate with their families when younger, NZers, SAers, Islanders or northern hemisphere... Another factor is country kids often seem to take their opportunities were they come...

Yep and still do...they also get some from the greater Brumbies region....which is over a third of NSW I might add....See map for Brumbies country....

The Brumbies represent all of the following NSW South Coast, Southern NSW and South West NSW towns and more...many don't realise this as the Tahs call themselves NSW Waratahs which is not entirely true...

…from Eden to the far western corner of the Murray River and form central NSW town of Condobolin, where “Clancy of the Overflow” roamed in Banjo Paterson’s poem to the peak of Mount Kosciuszko…is all Brumby Territory…

That’s about 26,600 square Km of NSW (About a third of NSW). Plenty of space for the Wild Horses to run…

The Brumbies Rugby Team represents The ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union from November 2004. The team name ‘ACT Brumbies’ was changed to ‘Brumbies Rugby’ and a new identity was launched to reflect the expanded region of the Brumbies. NSW towns such as: Albury, Balranald, Batemans Bay, Bega, Bermagui, Bombala, Braidwood, Bungendore, Cooma, Condobolin, Crackenback, Deniliquin, Eden, Forbes, Glenroy, Goolgowi, Gooloogong, Goulburn, Grenfell, Griffith, Gundagai , Guerrilla Bay, Harden, Hay , Hillston, Holbrook, Huskisson, Jindabyne, Junee, Lake Cargelligo, Leeton, Lockhart, Merimbula, Mildura, Milton, , Mollymook, Moruya, Narooma, Narrandera, Tuross Heads, Tumut, Thredbo, Tathra, Taralga, Smiggin Holes Ulladulla, Vincentia, Wee Jasper, Wagga Wagga, Wentworth, West Wyalong, Yass, and Young…

Please note that Coach for TWF the Brumbies are no longer the ACT Brumbies...
