Rebels coach swims nude
October 04, 2007
MELBOURNE Rebels coach Bill Millard has honoured a promise to swim nude in Port Phillip Bay if his team qualified for the Australian Rugby Championship semi-finals.
The Rebels snuck into a semi on Sunday against Western Sydney Rams with a last-round victory over the Canberra Vikings.
Millard bared all in a chilly swim on Monday morning, with the Rebels players watching in considerable amusement from the beach.
"Mate, it was absolutely freezing,'" Millard said. "It took me about 10 hours to recover. "That'll teach me to shoot my mouth off."
Millard had to remain fully immersed in the water, up to his neck, for 12 minutes, the same amount of time the players have to remain in the icy sea in their water recovery sessions.
"I was fully submerged, nude up to my neck," he said. "I hope the boys enjoyed it."
