Nah the paragraph about the government being financially "under the thumb" of the WAFC was what i meant, sorry i should have been more specific![]()
Take a look inside the city’s new stadium

New images of the interior of the under-construction Perth Arena have been released by the State Government.
They show high foyers filled with imposing beams and pillars and colourful concourses decorated with criss-crossed patterns.
The images, obtained exclusively by The West Australian , show for the first time the interior of the $335 million indoor stadium being built for the Government by Len Buckeridge’s BGC.
Reflected in the interior are sharp angles and geometric shapes reminiscent of the Eternity Puzzle — a 209-piece polygonal jigsaw puzzle where each piece is different and has no symmetry — upon which the architects are understood to have based the design for the distinctive exterior of the arena.
The project is the biggest excavation site in the city with more than 100,000cum of dirt being removed so a basement carpark can be built.
According to a report from the Department of Housing and Works, only 15,000cum of earth has been removed so far, but sheeting piling — heavy corrugated steel foundations driven deep into the ground — should be complete within a fortnight. Concrete pours are expected to begin this month. The floor will require more than 20 concrete pours of up to 1000cum each to create an area that is about 24,000sqm.
A spokesman said construction of the 12,000-seat stadium was running to schedule and would be completed in 2010.
The State Government had originally hoped that the new multi- purpose venue would be built, owned and operated by the private sector with State funding assistance to avoid any taxpayer exposure to the operational risks.
However, rather than pursuing a procurement model which bordered on a public-private partnership, the Government ditched that process in September 2005 and decided to fund the entire stadium development.
Since then, the budgeted cost of the arena has more than doubled, to $330 million.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa

Apparently one of the reasons the government didnt go with Packer's Burswood plan, because the government had already signed the contracts for this piece of crap

Do you want to move the article then or post it somewhere else? I just thought it went with the crap stadium/arena decisions WA gov seems to be making at the moment!
Oh it definately belongs in the crap decisions pile.
You have no idea how many people i petition tell me they liked Packer's proposal
Which is to say: very minor sport (crowds of maybe a thousand or so?), one event and a whole lot of hoping about concerts. Would love to know how they got their business case approved - maybe RugbyWA should request it for use as a template for when they are trying to justify their own ground.
I smell another version of the belltower. I don't have an exact figure but Wildcats average home crowds can't be to much more then 4/5000. Hopman cup well theres 4/5 days of tennis. How many concerts will play there? Your definately on the money there Andy
Actually if you look closely enough at the pictures in the paper that are next to the article, you will notice that the ground is in oval configuration with AFL markings, but the posts (which are just inside the 50 metre line at the subi end of the ground) are Rugby posts.
This better not be some ominous sign
concerts depend on the lisence it gets for noise related events.
perth needs more places for gigs.
i can see this one being used fow shows quite a lot. when you take into account the number of big name concerts we have had here in the past 3 years.
Major acts usually cite the lack of a suitable venue for not comming to Perth. At least the Foo Fighters came to Perth![]()
nah man. look at the last few years.
the amount of gigs in perth has exploded.
all started with BDO and then rockit!
we still get looked over (i.e chili peppers last year) but were getting there.
