Westie I understand that teams want consistency, but to suggests refs should all ref like a certain ref is impossible. Teams needs to adapt to refs interpretation every week. That's counts for club, S15 and Test matches. The teams that adapt the quickest are the better teams. The problem in club land is that the difference in ref interpretation is greater than at the higher levels, and the average club player cant adapt as much as the pro's.

So Westie, was he harsh on the tackler or did he let them lay all over the tackle?
Also, it's hard to get consistency when teams are not consistent either, one week they'll be fired up and everything goes right (and generally ref gets praised), other times things just don't click and they lose the ball often (and the ref gets criticised for ruining their game).
It's not as easy as it looks.
The other issue is teams train together, and play together. Referees don't train together, and have a maximum of 2 assistants at prem grades who are generally lower level refs. Our only chance of consistency is watching the Pros and our education meetings, which are only 2 hours every 2 weeks. It's difficult to get consistency in any level, but more so ours because of the above. We are working on changing it.
Refs also review their DVD's, so any wrong calls can be reviewed and the ref see how they can avoid making the same issue again.
Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.
No dramas Westie. I understand the frustration (as a reasonably recent ex-player) of how it can seem and how it goes down as a player and spectator. Of course, somebody has to do it, and we certainly make mistakes. All I can assure you is we try and bring self review and accountability into it - it's rarely as negligent as the supporters seem to think. It does look very different when you're right there as opposed to 30-70m away
And when you throw 'materiality' into it, which supporters and players love to argue depending on if it suits their particular cause (or dare I say is beyond most), no wonder 1/2 the crowd think the ref's an idiot.
That didn't take long. No "P Plate" period to be served, eh? Get qualification and get stuck in!![]()
being a member of Maddington cricket club gives him instant qualification shasta
that'll do me
? What are we (ok, me) missing ?
alleged qualifications to be able to comment on club rugby
Not sure if you're referring to me BDG, but if so is most definitely an interesting and amusing assumption as to my lack of qualification![]()
Go on Sproggy, call that broken down gunfighter out.
He's no Clint Eastwood.
I've seen you boys spar a lot, both here and on the touchline, I'm not keen to get involved in that RM![]()
