Another unknown ref????
Mind you - more worried about the TMO - wtf?
He's not unknown!
South African fella. Very fit, very fast. Reffed the 7s final, sorry, gold medal match at the Olympics. Been on the 7s circuit for long time.
We had the Argentinean guy against the Reds. I think that one area where he struggles a little bit is the scrums as he is a 7s specialist ref. Otherwise he very good.
I actually think we get a better run with newer refs because they don't go into the match with preconceived ideas about anything.

nad i really rated the japanese ref - was one of the better ones we've had!
club website is saying McCalman, Koteka, Rona and Van Wyk available for selection against the Kings

No pressure at all on the boys but this is a must win game!
No pressure!
I'm a little concerned that all the tipsters on the Roar have backed the Force. I don't think we've ever won if everyone has backed the Force.
The Kings aren't easy beats - we've both got 1-4 records with ~-50 points.
We've beaten the Reds, the Kings have beaten the Sunwolves.
We've suffered a blow-out against the unbeaten Crusaders, the Kings have suffered a blow-out against the unbeaten Stormers.
Our other losses have been against the Blues, Brumbies and Waratahs (combined record 7-10), the Kings other losses have been against the Sharks, Jaguars and Lions (combined record 13-4).
We shouldn't underestimate the Kings - for instance, Chris Heiberg is only getting bench time for them, so they are a similar level to us.
Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
Sportsbet has the Western Force listed at $1.10 and the Kings at $7.50.

McCalman Returns for Southern Kings Showdown
By Fraser Smith on Fri 7th April 17
The Road Safety Western Force have made just one change to their starting XV for the game against the Southern Kings on Sunday, 9 April at nib Stadium. Captain Ben McCalman will make his first appearance of the season off the bench
Nedlands scrumhalf Michael Ruru is the only change in the run-on side this week and will make his starting debut, replacing the injured Ryan Louwrens.
The experience of co-captains Ben McCalman and Heath Tessmann will provide a huge boost for the team off the bench. While also among the reserves, local product Luke Burton is set to for his first match of the season after returning from injury. Also, Curtis Rona has recovered from the concussion he suffered against the Crusaders and will wear jersey No.23.
Head Coach Dave Wessels says the team are excited to be playing back in front of the Sea of Blue, and look forward to putting in a good performance against the Kings.
“It’s great to be back at home this week – only the second time in our first six games. We learnt some valuable lessons in New Zealand, particularly around our discipline and concentration in big moments.
“We definitely want to put in a performance that will make the people of Western Australia proud.”
