A conspiracy theory which may have been hatched in a bar in Coogee.
- The heartland unions (NSWRU and QRU) have welcomed the demise of professional rugby in WA. They never wanted it in the first place.
- The heartland unions do not like the present ARU.
- The heartland unions do not want professional rugby to re-emerge in WA at any time in the future (say for at least 20 years).
- If a revamped professional rugby competition after 2020 adds new teams to the four existing Australian SR teams, then the heartland unions and the ARU will ensure that the new teams are based in places like North Queensland, Western Sydney and Country NSW.
- To pander to the heartland unions, the present ARU will put in measures to block any attempts to reintroduce professional rugby to WA in the short-term.
- Shutting down serious club rugby in WA is one way to diminish the game of Rugby Union in WA, and that can be aided by putting down the provincial union.
- If the present ARU is capable of killing off one of its member unions in this way, then there may be nothing to stop it killing off any of the other state unions. Therefore the present ARU will have to go, once the dust has settled.
- The heartland unions have ready-made scapegoats in the unlikely event that they want to rebuild bridges with what may be left of the WA Rugby Community and with the Government of WA.
- Draw your own conclusions on what this might mean in the long term for the Melbourne based SR team.
All of the above is gossip, rumour, supposition and hear-say.
