Jimmy would be different if he decides not to extend in Japan and, with the Andre situation, that remains a posability.

Chrisso was signed again by the force around week 2 of the 2008 season. He played his first game against the Crusaders in Week 4. I can't remember the ARU putting any restrictions on the move at the time.

Mitchell furious at red tape 'roadblocks'
    TIM CLARKE
    February 17, 2010 - 1:23PM

Despair has turned to anger for Western Force coach John Mitchell, who has accused the Australian Rugby Union of putting up "roadblocks" in the club's bid to find replacements to fill the holes left by their massive injury toll.

On top of losing four Wallabies and a Springbok in the last week, the Force have also been told a bid to re-sign former favourite Scott Staniforth will not be allowed because he has an ongoing contract with a Japanese club.

That means the Force will have to delve even deeper into their untried, and in some cases unprepared, player stocks this weekend - a position Mitchell said was being made worse by officialdom.

"The thing that I'm annoyed more about is the number of blockages and hurdles in terms of trying to replace these players and bringing in extra resources to support the group during this period," Mitchell said.

Rules are made to be bent - if it's for Rocky Elsom or Daniel Carter. Allowing a 6 month sabbatical to a Senior player is bending the rules that supposedly govern contracting for everybody else. Gotta say I'm not surprised in the least. It's not gonna happen, but I wonder if the same strict interpretation would be applied if it were NSW in this position? Somehow I don't think so.

yeah whilst i dont exactly agree with the rule, it is there to help the wallabies.

If McMenimen was allowed to play with the Reds it would prevent another player elegible to be picked for the wallabies to play there.

However, there should be special dispensation to sign players on short term contracts when freak injury crisis's like this happen. The performance of the australian S14 teams is equally as important as the performance of the wallabies.

Pretty sure COY was released from Glasgow contract prior to taking up his second stint with the Force. The difference is that Spanner still has a contract with the Japanese Club.

Still sux though, surely the ARU could bend the rules for the 6 weeks Shep is out only?? Isn't Australian Rugby at stake here? It's gonna be tough to play entertaining rugby JO'N without a side!!

I wonder if that's the marquee flyhalf they had in mind when petitioning the ARU for another marquee slot?

Cipriani could well be better for the Force than Pretorius. More of a runner, not sure of his tactical nouse though

The only press articles I could find say Wasps have given him until COB today to accept their contract terms. All that probably means is that they will pull the offer off the table. Does not mean they won't make another later. he could also be feilding a French offer for mmore money and still be eligible for England. But he'd be welcom here, no doubt.

Cipriani won't play for England while Martin Johnston is in charge!
