The committee won't cop any punishment now that Walsh has been dropped for the weekends game.
It wasn't the first try to be turned down and it sure as hell won't be the last. This is Matt Giteau's way of blaming others for his own shortfalls as a player, instead of copping criticism himself he has a convient target in Steve Walsh
Dropping Walsh and disciplining Giteau should be to seperate issues, probably gutless out though, wouldn't want to bruise his precious delicate ego...

For my 2 cents...its about time someone said something about the quality of reffing. Giving a sort of ultimatum and threatening not to show is a bit silly but saying what I'm sure a lot of players are thinking isn't so stupid, he just went about it the wrong way. Giving him a fine is only going to put a dent in his wallet. Besides Hoiles seemed to be giving Walsh a mouthful and I'm not up with the rules but that's probably not in line with them either.
Hoiles got penalised for his mouthful, Giteau is as yet unpunished.
Steve Walsh might have had an ordinary game, I don't think it was too bad, I guess it all hinges on your view of the Ashley Cooper try, but if Giteau gets off scott free for saying what he's said it's a travesty, and makes any sanction handed out for criticising refs in the media before or since untenable.
Giteau needs to be sanctioned so that it can be obvious that the match report is the motivation to review referees performance not the media.
C'mon the
Dud decision: Giteau $5000 the poorer for telling it like it is

COMMENT
SANZAR got it right in deciding that Steve Walsh shouldn't referee Saturday night's Brumbies-Reds match but were wrong in forcing Matt Giteau to front its judiciary committee last night on a code of conduct charge.

Ain't that par for the course? Growden justifying Giteau's performance. What a turd. And how's the loaded question? Not surprisingly, most comments are critical of Growden's dribble.

I thought the Ashley Cooper try was legit (thought the aforementioned Steyn try was fine too. It's only a double movement if at any point in scoring the try you lose momentum. I didn't think Walsh's refereeing was that bad either, from what I saw of it. It kind of seemed like Hoiles had a grump after a marginal penalty against him when he got up after Waugh tackled him and lost his grip. The Brumbies ball security was woeful. The backrow either didn't show up or just decided that they were going to get penalised anyway so they just buggerised around. Bit of a self fulfilling prophecy really.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Lyndon Bray doesn't think it was a try, Growden does.
Even if Steve Walsh was demoted for a poor performance, Giteau needed to be sanctioned for his comments to the media........doing exactly what Pie Man accused Lyndon Bray of doing......apart from the fact that Bray is allowed to do it by SANZAR!
C'mon the
So, by extension, it is fine to go to ground and keep rolling and rolling until you get there, or crawl along the ground, so long as you don't stop at any point and lose momentum?
Personally, I would have said the law was clear - if you are tackled (itself pretty clearly defined), you must play the ball immediately placing it either back or reaching out for the try. Nowhere does it say you get one more go at lunging for the line, which is what Steyn definitely did and AAC more subtly did.
But as for Hoiles, the law was even more clear - the ref is the sole judge of law during a game. Giteau's comments were stupid by extension of that law...he was effectively challenging the validity of that law and, if he wants to play the game, he has to play by the IRB/Sanzar rules. If he wants to be able to sit back and bitch about the ref, he needs to retire and become a commentator.
