I think it had to do with not wanting to reveal what she really thought as it would expose to all what pressures herself and her government are under from the numerous union and other "powerbrokers" to support the TWU in this dispute. As it is both she and some of her ministers have been critical of the action taken by Qantas but said sod all about what the TWU was doing to the business.

Unions need to evolve. Forcing your employer to pay your members higher wages and conditions than your employer's competitors, means only one thing. Your employer goes out of business, and your members lose jobs.

Look at Germany and how the Unions work there. The laws already protect workers rights, so the way Unions get more for their workers is by sitting with the employer and saying " How do vee make more money?" Employers do their financial modelling, unions buy into it in exchange for benefits to their members. Why is Germany a first world country the powerhouse of Europe? Their workers get on average 5 week's leave, 12% super contribution, 40 hr week, plus health fund contributions. It's a win - win situation.

This old fashioned adverserial campaign is win-lose and sadly it's neither the company nor Union that loses most.

Sure you can argue Joyce earns 5 Mil.. Nothing stopping a Union member to go to college, sell his soul and life to the company he works for and earn $5mil. Stress is super high, average 100 hours per week, in front of media so gets sledged and in some cases family gets sledged too. $5.0 mil certainly not worth that kind of shit to me.

Anti union. They are a bunch of wankers who new to grow up and find new ways to go about getting the results they desire. You can't be walking 'out the gate' at any opportunity nowadays

Qantas either moves offshore or has to shrink. We can't compete with the cheaper labour overseas.
