I'm with you there Burgs.
I'm sure Hale is prob the best PSA rugby school at the moment. Not every school will win the Redmond Cup, but every school has the potential to produce good players.
And its really up to the players whether how badly they want to improve. You may have someone like Kurtley Beale in your team, but you still might not win the cup or be the best team. Likewise, you can have a really good player in your team, but if he doesn't want to improve, then you can't help it.
I'm sure every school produces good players. Even Guildford has produced Cruz Ah Nau, prob the best forward in the PSA at the moment. But as Burgs said and as i mentioned earlier, there are much larger factors to choosing a school for your kid than rugby. And i would definately send any kids of mine to Scotch for its balance.
I don't know about it now. But back when i was in school, and that's only 3 years ago, PSA schools did offer scholarships to rugby players. They gave out 'Music Scholarships' to good rugby players who could prob only play a single tune on the guitar. I've got a friend who got one.Originally Posted by Mtbeaver

And if you really want to drop names for coaches, as Mtbeaver mentioned, Scotch has 2 development officers, 1 current School boys coach, the Headmaster's a former rep player( his son's a current rep player i think), an U19 current international player, 2 schoolboys players as coaches. And just for the kicks of it, its a multiracial mix of coaches, with south africans, irish, NZ, English, Singaporean and of course, Australian. So in a way, the players get a good mix of rugby from everywhere.

I wondered what all that "music scholarships" stuff was about.Originally Posted by gotheforce

Aaaaahhh, the memories....
I was a Guildford man myself and we shared the Redmond Cup with Hale in 1980. The team we had then was basically the same team we'd had since Year 8, so we were a well-drilled, well-oiled machine...
Having said that, GGS seems not to be all that strong these days. They have some school policy about "academia". Dunno what that's all about but I can't see that concept lasting. I mean, I ask you, who goes to school to learn stuff - other than sports?
Currently being in the PSA and going to Aquinas the difference between schools is very minimal. Hale are the outstanding team with 5 NTS players but other than that its pretty even. As shown by the results this year the comp is very unpredictable.
The PSA schools are good rugby schools, agreed. Not one of them would beat Aranmore though......
Come the revolution, the backs will be the first to be lined up against the wall and shot for living parasitically off the work of others....
Now that is a challenge I would love to see carried out![]()
"Bloody oath we did!"
Nathan Sharpe, Legend.
Hale would from the sounds of it be the only team capible. with hales closest rivals scotch, wesley who both lost to hale by over 50points.
Not too sure about Wesley, but i think Scotch lost to Hale by 10 points only with the score being 20-10.
But i reckon Hale would prob be the PSA school most likely able to challenge Aranmore.
Let me rephrase that. No PSA school gives sports scholarships in the open.Originally Posted by Mtbeaver

Every forwards dream is to become a back...
I would bet more to say you'd loose.
You actually don't understand how nuts they are.
Their front rows combined weight is over 400KG
Mmm a big pack. Our backs are awesome though and our pack will hold their own. I think we have 6 players in the Schoolboys team.

true shaun.
I reckon your forwards will struggle against Aranmore's forwards.
But your backs are more superior to theirs, especially with Dane in fullback. But get rid of Daryl Mitchell at flyhalf cos he's useless. you'd think that because he's john's son, he'd at least be farly decent.
aranmore versed wesley last year. and aranmore rested i think 5 of there players and they still beat our 1st team. aranmore are the best rugby school because of how much more physical they are.
mmm the Aranmore team of last year was a lot stronger than the one this year. The current Aranmore team has not one state schoolboy reps.. Hale would easily beat them
The Aranmore team of last year was a lot stronger than the one this year.. There are no state schoolboys from Aranmore compared to at least 4-5 last year.. Would back most PSA teams to beat them
