The AFL has a system where players from other sporting codes don't come under the normal salary cap (or get considerable salary cap concessions) in order to grow the game.

That's because of their inferiority complex. They are convinced in their own minds that their game is the greatest sport known to man. But nobody else wants to play it. They have to bribe people to come over or play "hybrid" matches against Irish ameteurs.

Folau would be an interesting purchase, certainly give the team's image a boost with a guy having a big name like that. Might give the general public the impression that we're really trying something. I reckon we should really go after Karmichael Hunt though.

Looking to the past here I suppose, but I wonder if it would be worth looking into Lachlan Mackay or Matt Giteau again, or George Smith even, seeing as there is a new coaching staff.

chibi, we really don't want to get mercenaries, pensioners, primadonnas, flakes or dickheads. Gits fits all categories, Mackay and Smith are pensioners, Smith plays in the one position we have well stocked.

BLUES Super Rugby coach John Kirwan admits he tried to sign Australian code-hopper Israel Folau but failed to get a response.

Former Australian and Queensland rugby league back Folau is poised to return to the 13-man code after walking out on a lucrative AFL contract with Greater Western Sydney.

Kirwan said he left an expression of interest with Folau's agent, believing the 23-year-old had potential similar to that of Sonny Bill Williams, who has forged a career in rugby league, rugby union and boxing.

"I didn't hear back so I took that as a no," Kirwan said.

"From what I've heard, he's a talented player. A bit like Sonny Bill, it might take him a while to get used to things but it would be worth the wait."

The New Zealand Herald reported that Super Rugby champions the Chiefs also pursued Folau.

Kirwan came up short in advances to former All Blacks fullback Mils Muliaina, who has decided to stay in Japanese club rugby.

That's the one. It's not far from Bowraville - in Queensland. But his parents are Tongan so he's probably actually eligible for the All Blacks from New Zealand which is also apparently in Queensland. Queensland's everywhere.
