Victorian Rugby fans are eagerly awaiting the Trans Tasman blockbuster between the Western Force and the Crusaders at Olympic Park on Saturday February 2nd, 2008.
But now there’s another added attraction to whet the appetite before the big match – a celebrity Sevens Rugby clash between the Crusaders Allsorts and the Melbourne Rebels Allstars which will be played as a fun curtain raiser to the main game.
Fans of high quality Rugby will be flocking to see the titanic clashes in the main game between All Blacks superstar Richie McCaw and Dan Carter against Wallaby legends Nathan Sharpe and Matt Giteau.
But now in the pre-game entertainment the fans can enjoy another titanic clash between Classic Wallaby and Rebels star Matt Cockbain, who will captain the Melbourne Rebels Allstars and All Blacks and Crusaders legend, Todd Blackadder, who will lead the Crusaders Allsorts.
Making a special guest appearance for the Rebels Allstars will be another Classic Wallaby, and VRU Marketing Manager, Fletcher Dyson, who played a major part in the Rebels successful run to the Australian Rugby Championship final, acting as the team’s Scrum coach.
The rest of the Rebels team will be made up from rising stars from the Victorian Rugby Union and stars of the Melbourne Axemen, the current Australian Rugby Shield champions.
The Crusaders Allsorts, who’ll play in the reverse Crusaders strip, will feature some surprise guests plus five spots which will go to Air New Zealand competition winners who will win the opportunity to play in the Sevens match.
The game will be played 10 minutes each way with a generous break of five minutes for half time - so Fletcher can get his breath back.
They’ll also be sideline commentary and music all adding to the fun festival family atmosphere.
