AUSTRALIA utility back Matt Giteau will miss next Saturday night's Test with Fiji due to a minor knee injury.
Giteau sustained a blow to his left knee, which was already recovering from a low-grade ligament strain, during last night's 31-0 whitewash of Wales at Suncorp Stadium.
The 24-year-old Western Force dynamo will miss his home Test in Perth and travel across to South Africa early with six teammates to prepare for the June 16 Tri-Nations opener withg the Springboks.
Wallabies coach John Connolly will tomorrow announce which other players will be rested against the Fijians to make the early flight to Cape Town.
There will be seven guys going early, for any number of reasons," he said.
"One of them is we want them to travel up the top of the plane so they can stretch out.
"Giteau will be one of the seven.
"He's got another knock on his knee, he didn't train early this week and I think we'll probably sit him out.
"It's not terribly bad but he just needs a week off."
Former skipper George Gregan, who took over impressively from Giteau at halfback after a terrible first half in Brisbane, will start in the No.9 jersey, while Reds half Sam Cordingley has been called into the squad to sit on the bench.

Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.

Stanners to #12!!!!
Every forwards dream is to become a back...
slap in the face for yak with Cordingley sitting on the bench. oh well atleast gregan is in at 9. but shouldnt knuckles be resting the older players and managing them for so they are 100% for the world cup?
stanners wont be 12 he will keep playeing cooper i bet even though stanner shows much more flair
unfortunately it looks as if stanners is going to have to wait until we get a new Australia coach before he gets a chance - good old fashioned rugby politics...![]()
Damn you god!!
Look what he's done.
Stanners aint getting any younger though unfortunately....This could be his last chance to make a real impact...Hope he gets a chance...
Proudly bought to you by a brewery somewhere....
I hope with Gits out and Gregan at 9 we absolutely smack the pants off Fiji and so the experiment will be officially put to rest.
I made Happy sad...
Nice one!
CHEERLEADERS ROCK!!!
Staniforth is only 29 isn't he? Hardly ancient. I hope he is given a chance on the weekend. What's the story with Cam Shepherd is he fit? He doesn't seem to be mentioned by the press anymore
