Its really recommended that bob be asked to check the grounding for the ref who is checking the grounding of the ball that needs to be checked. Checking his opinion on the matter is part of the referees checklist. If he he is not asked to check the grounding (as per checklist item 9.4B) then the referee may be in error on the checking of he grounding. TMOs themselves have background checks before each round to ensure that they're checking skillz are up to scratch. Failure to do this checking will result in a check in a check box with negative connotations for the checkee rather than the checker.

It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! Crazy eastern statesmen hijacking my post...
Well that sort of answers my question about "benefit of the doubt". But the application by referees/TMOs has been lacking. Maybe Paddy is not communicating too well. Perhaps Coach could extend an invitation to Paddy and all his whistleblowers to register for TWF so's we can set 'em straight.Originally Posted by Exile

I would prefer to see all tries go to the TMO as a matter of course - with the question - is there any reason why I can't award this
Refs are human and can't see as much as a camera/ replays - there are just to many games won and lost by a point and the number of illegal tries is a genuine frustration for all fans - imagine if Sheps didn't get THAT kick - how sick would we have been - untimely it would give the refs more cred as less mistakes would be made.

I think this is generally indicative of the difference in interpretation of what a knock on is in RL just about anything is called a knock on if control is lost, the call is usually made when the ball hits the ground, how many knock backs have you seen lately. In Rugby, the requirement for the ball to travel forward from the hand is much more strictly enforced. If that interpretation is taken into account, an RL TMO could rule on a knock on where a Rugby TMO can'tOriginally Posted by Sagerian

So.. Are we in agreement? I'm not sure, but my post got quoted...
I was more talking about forward passes not being able to be picked up on camera but knock ons easier to spot. If the ref misses it, he misses it though.

*sobs* I DON'T KNOW!!!
Something to do with what the TMO 'SHOULD' be able to call on?
As an aside, forward passes in rugby are a farce. This is one rule that should be updated from the League handbook ( along with knock ons). The opposite of that is the feeding the scrum straight, absolutely poo rule at the moment ( in rugby ) and one that is taken directly from the League handbook.

Check this out for strangeness Chook - AFL relies on FORWARD PASSES, you know, that thing the Swans do!
Yes TMO's can't technically judge forward passes, but jeez he'd have a fairly good idea, as do so many crowd members at games who aren't necessarily in line with the passer. He'd also be able to see the ball drift from behind the 22- to in front of it. Refs can miss these as they scramble to keep apace with the game, and touchies can have their vision obscured by other players on the field.
I believe that the TMO should be able to call a 'no-try' based on a definite forward pass not seen by ref or touchie.
And yes, I know that many home crowds could conspire the call 'forward pass' ad nauseum, but in my experience, they're pretty spot on with their sideline reffing.
