Kevvy understandably protecting his player. The equation won't change with a player as dangerous as Walsh. Nor should it. You need an experienced defender to cut his time down on those sweep plays he's so good at. Next time it should be another of Kevvie's boys in Kotoni Staggs. I'd have picked him last week but he was not available.

PS stop talking about the Mungo's Burgs. A bloke your size might not easily get back in his closet

Anytime Maroons or Broncos are up mate
Along with Women's 7's, it's about the only sporting joy I get much from these days (ie Force, Wallabies and WCE's) haha!

So; Graeme Annesley (NRL ops) began this week's regular briefing with a report on this incident. Mainly explaining that, even though he passed a HIA the independent doctor classed the incident as Cat 1 before he left the pitch. So 11 day protocol applies. On two occasions he said this was despite him only being "briefly" unconcious and then "momentarily" unconcious. Players often get Cat 1 without ever being unconcious.

Reinforced my original thoughts about what influenced the referees to rule red and ignore mitigation.

So the severity of injury is the metric, not the actions of the offender?

edit that sounded a little smart ass, not intended, it's a genuine question

Sua'ali'i and Swinton are twins - both thugs.

Genuine answer. I've never said or implied that. My point is and the review reinforced it for me, I'm positive that mitigation would have made it a sin bin but the officials had no choice but red, given what they saw as the severity of the injury - at the time.

OK I thought you were saying that mitigation would have reduced the severity of the sanction.

I don't think mitigation would have been possible in RU, because the hit was "always illegal" but I don't know rugby league rules as well (only watched Origin without any other context for many years)

With respect I meant what I said.
IMO Swinton's hit on Jake Strahan was unforgivable and did the game no credit.
We need to get this aspect out of the games if we want to grow them.

I don't see the Sua'ali'i hit in the same league as Swinton's though.

Swinton deliberately attacked a smaller opponent late and high with the intent of hurting him.

Sua'ali'i hit hard and high, but on a dropping player in a game where high hits with no wrap are, at least, tolerated to a different level.

Sua'ali'i was reckless and careless, definitely deserving of red in RU, Swinton was premeditated and violent and the reason why refs shoulkd still be able to issue a direct red card and send the bastard off for the remainder of the 80.

so....whilst they would have received the same sanction I count them as very different incidents.

That's key. The metric(?) in RL is below shoulder height. Which Suaalii was until the slip. So not always illegal.QED. This is changing. The UK is going to be below the armpits from next year so the NRL will likely follow for legals if nothing else.
But to call the young bloke a thug on Swintons level is not valid. We all agree players need protection but accidents will happen still. Hopefully much less so.
Anyway I've said my last and you are all welcome to continue being wrong.
